The Smooth 5.65 treadmill is one the cheapest model in Smooth’s treadmill lineup for 2010-2011.
This model is the upgraded version of Smooth’s former budget treadmill but now discontinued Smooth 5.45. And just like other Smooth models, expect to get excellent value for your money with this machine.
If you’re in the market for quality treadmills that are affordable, then the Smooth 5.65 might be what you’re looking for. It would be perfect for joggers and walkers.
But if you’re a hardcore runner, I don’t think this machine would suffice, I suggest you visit our best buy treadmills page and look for a treadmill in the $1,500 or above price range.
The Smooth 5.65 treadmill comes with a powerful 2.5HP continuous duty motor, which is pretty good for an entry level. This motor has speeds of 0.5 to 10 MPH and has 15 levels of incline for added intensity.
The running surface measures 20” x 55” so you'll have enough room to move and feel comfortable while doing your exercise. Plus, the Im-pression shock absorption system cushions your stride to reduce harmful impact on your knees, joints and back for a safer workout.
There are also 14 preset workout programs to choose from which is more than what its predecessor offered (6 workouts). And there is also an included wireless heart rate chest strap so you would no longer have to hold the hand grip pulse monitor (you still can if you want) to check your heart rate.
Another feature that can be found on this machine is the soft drop folding. With this gas shock-assist lift, you can gently tilt the deck into position and wheel it away for storage or you can use the foot-operated lever to lower itself slowly and smoothly from a folded position. With this feature, folding and unfolding a treadmill is safer and easier.
The blue back lit LCD display shows you your speed, time, distance, incline, calories burned, heart rate etc. so you can always monitor your progress. Plus the console now comes with a deluxe sound system where you can plug your MP3, iPods or other music devices so you can listen to your favorite music while working out.
Other features include the water bottle holder to place your drinking bottle while running, and the 2 speed workout fan to keep you cool and fresh during those long hard owrkouts.
And finally, the Smooth 5.65 treadmill boasts a lifetime motor and frames warranty, 3 years parts warranty and a 2 years labor warranty. These warranties are longer than what the Smooth 5.45 offered and is definitely hard to beat in this price range.
So far I don't see any weakness in this machine. But as a reminder, the price of this machine already includes curbside shipping but if you want it to be delivered inside your house you will need to pay extra.
With the new sound system, cooling fan and more preset workout programs for the same price as its predecessor, you'll definitely get more value for your money with this machine. So to conclude, I do recommend the Smooth 5.65 treadmill. However, an entry treadmill will always be an entry level treadmill. I still recommend you buy a $1,500 or more treadmill if you are a serious runner. (See our best buy treadmills page)
