Star Trac 4000 HR

by Richard
(Dallas)

We had a Star Trac 4000 HR treadmill for a number of years in our home. It was a used commercial treadmill which was trouble free and worked fine the entire time we had it (about 7 years). The only reason we parted with it was we had to move and could not take it with us. This is certainly an older model but I find that the deck and belts on Star Trac treadmills have a very similar feel which is very solid, an exceptionally well built cushioned running surface. The electronics were not as fancy, but reliability and good deck were most important for us.

Present Star Trac Treadmills installed at John's Island Club, Vero Beach Florida 32963

by Bill Christie
(Osterville, MA)

I really like the Star Trac units installed at The John Island Club in Vero Beach, Florida where my wife and I presently belong.

I was wondering what the model is and the approximate cost presently. The unit has a TV screen and also a fan installed to cool the participant.

We live in the summer on Cape Cod and are presently using a Landice treadmill in a tower room in a 5 story tower. The treadmill is located on the second floor of the tower. Both of us exercise every day about 50 minutes on the treadmill using the manual setting and level 4 to 10 about 3.6 MPH. We like the cooling fan that the Star Track has installed in it.

Are there good commercial used treadmills available presently also?

We are also looking at Life Fitness treadmills so we can compare and make a decision.

Quality and support had gone downhill

Our comppany purcahsed 0ver 100 treadmills and spinners.. all brand new and top of the line models. Nothing but problems from day one. Support promises but does not deliver. It's a shame because when the treads and bikes are actually operating they are very cool.. problem is they are down a lot and then getting parts and service takes a long time.

Would not be surprised if we ditch Star Trac as a vendor due to these issues... again its a shame... they used to be our #1 vendor and as I said when it works they are excellant machines... but they gotta work!!!

Star trac's support

by Kevin
(Seattle)

Star trac's support website has a lot if information, but is poorly organized. I have replaced a part which I ordered off of their website. Took forever for them to process it. then they sent me two of the same part and charged my credit card for both. two weeks later and countless phone calls I am no closer to getting my 450 dollars back than I was when the extra part came to my door. So for their mistake, which they admit to, I am paying. Their phone message says "world class service" over and over again which makes me laugh. In short do not buy a part or treadmill from them.

The E-TRe Star Trac treadmill sucks

by Karen
(Manchester, CT)

My gym (Cardio Express, CT) recently purchased all new Star Trac E-TRe treadmills. I haven't counted them all but there's at least 50. Every single one I have tried has something wrong with it. A lot of them say "Error Code 17" or "Error Code 40", no idea what those mean. A few that I have gotten on say "No user detected" and will not start up. And the most annoying thing is they automatically pause in the middle of your workout. I'll be running along, not touching anything, and all of the sudden, the machine pauses. It's happened on every single treadmill I've tried. If anyone has any insight as to why this happens, I'd love to hear it.

Star Trac equipment is cheaply made.
by: Anonymous

They make the cheapest equipment. Some of their weights on the machines are actually made of plastic! Their treadmills are never working and their exercise equipment CONSTANTLY breaks down and needs repair. They're an awful company. Stick to Life Fitness and Hammer Strength.

Chances are the speed sensor is out of alignment
by: Anonymous

Chances are the speed sensor is out of alignment thus it loses the speed information from time to time and shuts down. It's a very common problem in all brands due to vibration and if it wasn't checked after shipping and before placing it in service, it's probably the cause. Alot of gym owners opt to assemble themselves to save money and don't know to check the tolerances of the components tune the machine before putting it into service.

It's all made in China!
by: STEVE

All these Treads are now made in China... no quality controls in place... we also have new spin bikes....all the new spin bikes have pedals that break off and have almost caused serious injuries. Over 100 bikes and all of them have issues.

Star Trac needs to bring manufacturing and quality controls back to the US.

HOW MUCH MONEY CAN THEY HAVE SAVED WHEN THEY NEED TO SEND FIELD TECHS AND VPS AND NEW PARTS AND SOFTWARE TO EVERY PIECE OF EQUPMENT SEVERAL TIMES!

same problem at my gym
by: Anonymous

The same thing has happened to some of our star trac tredmills at our gym. i callesd star trac and they said that it might have something to do with the treadmills not getting a sufficient power source when they are all running at the same time. It's a phantom problem in that it comes and goes.

Waaaaaaay better.
by: BrianM272

I work out there sometimes and also at MCC, and I know exactly what you're talking about. It was pretty annoying at first. The error messages and stopping for no reason didn't seem right. But they did something a few months ago (I heard it was new software) and the treadmills have been way better. I don't see those errors anymore. Do you? They seem good to me now. I like them. They're much better than the ones at MCC but I guess that's not saying much because the Star Trac ones are high end.
