If you’re looking for some of the highest quality home treadmills in the market, then you’re in the right place.
Precor pride themselves in offering high quality treadmills which are backed by long warranties.
I must admit though, Precor treadmills are not for those with a limited budget. It won’t be the cheapest treadmill you can buy, as a matter of fact, it could very well be one of the more expensive treadmill brands in the market right now.(Update: Lately, there have been quite a few Precors being priced below $2,000) So if you’re looking to save money on your new treadmill, then I suggest you visit our Best Treadmill page. This brand is not for you.
Precor Company Background
Precor changed ownership a few years ago. They are now owned by Amer group PLC. It was acquired in the fall of 2002. Amer Group also owns the Chicago-based Wilson Sporting Goods Co. as well as sports brands, Atomic and Suunto.
Precor has been manufacturing high quality fitness equipment since the early 80's. They are one of those companies who invests millions in their research and development. They hold as much as 170 patents, simply showing how serious they are in staying as one of the top fitness brands in the US.
The Cost of Precor
For years, treadmills from Precor ranged from $3,000 to $5,000 and above. They fall in treadmill’s high priced range. But when you consider the quality of exercise equipment you'll get, you'll understand why they price these machines as such. They use materials of the highest quality to manufacture these extremely durable treadmills.
But lately, they have been pricing these high quality treadmills more agressively. Some of their more basic treadmills are getting price tags below $2,000, which is actually a great bargain since Precor didn't sacrifice these machine's quality. You actually save around $1,000 if you buy a similar Precor right now compared to a few years ago.
What You Should Expect
The company is also backing up their product with one of the best warranties in the industry. They offer lifetime warranties on their home treadmill's frames and welds, 10 years on parts and a year on labor. Simply proving how confident the company is with the quality and durability of their product.
Aside from quality, Precors are also known for being loaded with features. They offer powerful motors, wide running surfaces, they are quiet, sturdy, and packed with lots of different programs just to name a few.
What Owners Didn’t Like from their Precor Units
The main complain people have with this brand is that it is overpriced. My opinion on this is that the price is fair considering the quality product you’ll get in return. Besides, they have recently reduced their prices which should make this brand affordable to more people.
Also, some people complain about Precor treadmills taking up too much space. But that is something to be expected from treadmills with huge motors and wide running spaces.
So, Do I Recommend It?
Precor manufactures probably one of the highest quality treadmills in the market today, which they back up wholeheartedly as can be seen on the length of their warranties. So, I would recommend Precor treadmills but only and only if you can afford it. It is one of the best in the market right now but at the same time it is also one of the more expensive.
However, if you are not a serious runner or simply don't have the budget, you're better off buying a treadmill in the mid-priced range.(see our Best Treadmills page)
