The E-TRe Star Trac treadmill sucks

by Karen
(Manchester, CT)

My gym (Cardio Express, CT) recently purchased all new Star Trac E-TRe treadmills. I haven't counted them all but there's at least 50. Every single one I have tried has something wrong with it. A lot of them say "Error Code 17" or "Error Code 40", no idea what those mean. A few that I have gotten on say "No user detected" and will not start up. And the most annoying thing is they automatically pause in the middle of your workout. I'll be running along, not touching anything, and all of the sudden, the machine pauses. It's happened on every single treadmill I've tried. If anyone has any insight as to why this happens, I'd love to hear it.

Chances are the speed sensor is out of alignment
by: Anonymous

Chances are the speed sensor is out of alignment thus it loses the speed information from time to time and shuts down. It's a very common problem in all brands due to vibration and if it wasn't checked after shipping and before placing it in service, it's probably the cause. Alot of gym owners opt to assemble themselves to save money and don't know to check the tolerances of the components tune the machine before putting it into service.

It's all made in China!
by: STEVE

All these Treads are now made in China... no quality controls in place... we also have new spin bikes....all the new spin bikes have pedals that break off and have almost caused serious injuries. Over 100 bikes and all of them have issues.

Star Trac needs to bring manufacturing and quality controls back to the US.

HOW MUCH MONEY CAN THEY HAVE SAVED WHEN THEY NEED TO SEND FIELD TECHS AND VPS AND NEW PARTS AND SOFTWARE TO EVERY PIECE OF EQUPMENT SEVERAL TIMES!

same problem at my gym
by: Anonymous

The same thing has happened to some of our star trac tredmills at our gym. i callesd star trac and they said that it might have something to do with the treadmills not getting a sufficient power source when they are all running at the same time. It's a phantom problem in that it comes and goes.

Waaaaaaay better.
by: BrianM272

I work out there sometimes and also at MCC, and I know exactly what you're talking about. It was pretty annoying at first. The error messages and stopping for no reason didn't seem right. But they did something a few months ago (I heard it was new software) and the treadmills have been way better. I don't see those errors anymore. Do you? They seem good to me now. I like them. They're much better than the ones at MCC but I guess that's not saying much because the Star Trac ones are high end.
