Discovery 420 Treadmill Review

Discovery 420 Treadmill

Discovery 420 Treadmill

Update: This treadmill has been discontinued

The Discovery 420 treadmill is the most expensive model in the Discovery series. It comes with a slightly more powerful motor

and boasts more features compared to the other two machines in this series.

Is It for You?

This mid-priced treadmill has a large running space and possesses an excellent motor warranty. Tall people would most benefit from this model since they require bigger tread belts to accommodate their long strides.

What It Offers

As I’ve said above, the 420 comes with a slightly more powerful motor. It has a 2.0 HP continuous duty motor which reaches 10hp max speed and 12% max incline. Although more powerful than other Discovery models, it is still not strong enough to match what top mid-priced treadmills offer. (See our best buy treadmills page)

Also, I don’t think the small improvement in the motor is enough to power its huge tread belt. Big tread belts need powerful motors and since this model has a small motor, it would need to work doubly hard to move the large belt. This in return, would lead to lots of problems in the future.

Other enhancements on this treadmill include a 5-window LCD console which displays more information, OneTouch™ speed and incline controls so you can easily adjust your workouts, and an EKG pulse grip to allow you to workout in your target heart rate.

In addition to that, you’ll still get the 10 year motor warranty Discovery is known for. As well as the lifetime frame warranty and an improved 2 year parts warranty and 1 year labor warranty. .

Weakness

This is a pretty decent treadmill considering its price. However, its quality and motor power still needs improvement.

Recommendation

I can’t recommend the Discovery 420 treadmill. This is a good treadmill but it belongs in the very competitive mid-priced range category. And in this category, being good isn’t good enough.

If you really want a high quality mid-priced treadmill, I recommend you check out the Smooth 7.1HR. It is currently the best below $1,500.

I enjoyed the treadmill I have had for over 6 years and the motor is strong as well as the overall mechanics of the engine. I love the incline and it ...
